by

Janice M., a proud grandmother and Remento customer, never expected a simple Christmas gift from her daughter to open up a world of family history, stories, and cherished memories. Her experience with Remento transformed how she reconnects with her family's past and her loved ones in the present. Here's a glimpse into Janice's adventure with Remento and why this storytelling platform has become so valuable in her life.

A Thoughtful Gift with Endless Possibilities

Janice’s daughter purchased Remento for Janice as a Christmas gift last year. Her daughter hoped that buy purchasing Remento, she’d be able to preserve some of her mom’s best memories and stories for future generations. As they began their storytelling journey, Janice and her family soon realized that their journey would bring her entire family around not only the book, but around the stories as she told them.

"She added my two grandsons to the list of who can ask questions. Sometimes the boys will write a question and one of them will jump it up on top of the list, you know, like, 'Why do you like me best?'"

Remento’s collaborative features allow anyone in the family to pick and vote on promopts, which allowed Janice to engage more deeply with her grandsons and turned storytelling into a fun, interactive family activity.

Bridging the Gap Between Generations

Attending a family reunion in South Carolina made Janice realize the significant gaps in her family's history. Many relatives, who turned out to be second cousins, didn’t even know each other existed due to the separate immigration of family members to the United States.

"There were so many unanswered questions. It’s sad, you know. Some of us there were second cousins and didn’t even know each other existed. I never knew my grandparents; they were gone before I was born. There’s a lot of history that we don’t know."

Remento provided Janice a platform to document these untold stories and answer long-standing family mysteries. She even discovered her father's name change when he immigrated, adding a new layer to her family narrative.

User-Friendly Interface and Personalized Prompts

Janice praised Remento for its user-friendly interface, especially for someone who is not particularly tech-savvy. She appreciated not having to remember passwords—just click on the prompt in the email, and she was ready to record.

"It’s easy to use. I love the fact that you don’t have to log in and remember your password. You just have to click on it, and it gets started."

However, Janice did face some challenges with adding photos, which her daughter aims to assist her with soon. This minor hiccup hasn’t deterred Janice’s enthusiasm for the platform.

Enhancing the Storytelling Experience

Janice discovered numerous features of Remento that enhanced the storytelling experience. She valued the flexibility in choosing, editing, and prioritizing questions. Janice's daughter, who conducted thorough research before choosing Remento, highlighted the uniqueness of the questions and the integration of user-generated prompts compared to other platforms that relied on stock questions.

"I definitely wanted something unique. Not something that everyone’s going to have in 30 years."

The Power of Reactions and Edits

One feature that stood out was the ability for family members to react to Janice’s stories. Janice enjoyed learning that her grandsons were watching her recordings each week. Knowing she had an audience increased her motivation to share new, engaging memories.

"I love it when the kids give me feedback after they listen to it and say, 'Wow, Grandma, I never knew that.' And that makes me think, ‘Oh yeah, wow.'"

Looking Ahead: Completing the Book

Janice’s experience with Remento underscores the platform’s ability to bridge generational gaps, preserve family history, and create new memories. Through it’s careful design and user-centric features, Remento provides a new way to transform how families document and cherish their stories - one question at a time.
